On the Couch!

College Football Thoughts:

SEC– How about the coaching carousel in the SEC?  Wouldn’t it be great if Bobby Petrino left Arkansas for Auburn, and Tommy Tuberville went to Arkansas, and Phil Fulmer went to Mississippi State.  It would be such an entertaining SEC Media Days in July.  My choices are Jeff Bower to State, Petrino to Auburn, and Gus Malzahn to Arkansas.  I don’t think any of those will happen, but it would be fun to see.

Florida Shouldn’t there be a team that interviews Charlie Strong at some point this bowl season?

Oklahoma I’m all for Oklahoma being in the Big XII title game.  But why aren’t there any people crying about Texas Tech?  THEY BEAT TEXAS!  They have as good of a resume as Texas.  I love Florida, and believe that they might be playing like the best team in the country.  No offense to Ole Miss, but of all the one loss teams in the hunt, the Gators have the worst loss.  If Oklahoma wins Saturday and Alabama loses, there could be, and should be, an argument for a Oklahoma- Texas National Title Game.  It won’t happen, because the humans voting for the thing won’t let it happen.  It’s too bad we’ve never had a true national champion.

SEC Title Game– Urban Meyer vs. Nick Saban might be the best coaching matchup in the country.  Maybe throw Stoops or Carroll in the mix, but I’ll take Meyer and Saban over them.

Heisman– The Heisman should be down to two people- Sam Bradford and Timmy Dynamite.

Numbers Oklahoma has scored 60 or more points in four straight.  Missouri has scored 50 or more six times.  LSU has lost 3 of 4 and two straight for the first time since 2002.

Conference Title Picks– I like Ball State, Alabama (today at least), Oklahoma, East Carolina, Boston College.

NFL Thoughts:

Teams with New Coaches for 2009-10: Lions, Seahawks, 49ers, Bengals, Browns, Rams, Chargers, Chiefs, Raiders, Jaguars.

Teams that Might have New Coaches in 2009-10: Eagles, Bills, Broncos, Bears, Texans.

Teams with a Long Shot to have New Coaches in 2009-10: Cowboys, Colts, Packers.

o       That’s a possible total of 18 new coaches next year.  Wow!  It should be an entertaining summer in the NFL.

Lions: Detroit will not win a game this season.  If they do, it better be this week against the Vikings.  However, I expect Adrian Peterson to top 200 yards this Sunday.  After that, it’s the Colts (road), Saints (home), and Packers (road).  Those three alone will score 120 points or more.

Cowboys: The Cowboys aren’t in the playoffs yet.  All of the experts who are saying that the Cowboys are among the NFL’s elite after wins over San Francisco and Seattle might want to hold judgment until after the next three weeks.  The Boys play the Steelers, Giants, and Ravens.  8-7?

Ken Dorsey: He’s starting this weekend.  I can’t believe he’s still around.  Here is a list of some other “quarterbacks” in the league: Brock Berlin, John David Booty, Todd Collins, Quinn Gray, Darrell Hackney, Cleo Lemon, Josh Johnson, Caleb Hanie, Gibran Hamdan, Matt Gutierrez, Matt Flynn, Kellen Clemens, John Beck.

Other Thoughts:

Guitar Hero:  What a great job advertising the Guitar Hero has brought to the table.  Kobe, ARod, Tony Hawk, and Mike Phelps in a Risky Business take off?  Brilliant.  Kobe is amazing in the commercial.  ARod’s seriousness is hysterical.  Hawk’s just funny with the helmet on.  And Phelps just looks like an angry Fish.  If you haven’t seen it, click on the link below.

Lebron James: I agree with Charles Barkley.  SHUT UP LEBRON!  I know it’s the media’s fault, but Lebron should be answering the constant questions without leaving the door open for 2010.  How about saying that you’re a Cleveland Cavalier and that you like it in Cleveland.  What I’m saying is that Lebron should lie if he has to.

No Surprise Here: The Pistons are only 7-6 with Iverson.  Practice?  TMac is hurt!  The Grizzlies need to stop anyone from driving the lane and getting an easy basket.

AMA’s: The New Kids on the Block performed at the AMA’s.  They aren’t new, they aren’t kids, and they aren’t any good.  Please don’t put them on television again!  PLEASE!  Miley Cyrus needs to act like the child she is.  She’s really an annoyance with limited talent (like her father).  Mariah Carey is a hot mess.  She embarrasses herself every time she steps foot (with big stripper heels) on a stage.  She’s vastly over rated.  Mariah can’t walk with the shoes that she wears and there’s a good chance of her clothes ripping off if she moves the wrong way.  Kate Walsh is the sexiest woman in the biz right now.  America, wake up!  The Jonas Brothers are the problem with kids today.  Are we really supposed to take The Pussycat Dolls seriously?  They are ridiculous.  Have you seen Vince Neil lately?  He looks a lot like Jon Lovitz!

The Fish Scales:

– The only college football ranking system that actually puts all teams on an even playing field and rewards accomplishment.  This is the 11th year of the Fish Scales which will culminate with Fish Bowl XI at the end of the season. The Fish Scales ranks teams based on accomplishment, seeds them 1-16, and then plays a simulated playoff on XBOX 360.  It’s not necessarily the “best” 25 teams in the country, but the 25 teams that have had the best season.  The top 16 are rewarded with a playoff.  Following are the top three teams for the SEC, CUSA, Top 25, and NFL Scales:

SEC- 1. Alabama (8 straight weeks #1)  2. Florida  3. Georgia

CUSA- 1. Tulsa (7 weeks at #1 this year)  2. Rice  3. Houston

Fish Scales Top 25- 1. Boise State  2. Utah  3. Alabama

NFL- 1. Giants  2. Titans  3. Buccaneers
