Tuesday Ramblings

Thoughts I’ve had while trying to figure out how many times “Sunday on the Couch” will mention that Gary Payton would have a sex change for $100 million.

I don’t think there is any way to start the Ramblings this week other than this. Think about the drunkest you’ve ever been, did the thought of getting naked and climbing into a Port-a-John holding tank ever cross your mind? You think when they got the call for help, the police actually thought the guy was just full of crap?

Maybe it’s just me, but didn’t we just have an Incredible Hulk movie a couple years ago?

So I watched the big “Nashville Star” premiere last night and what a disappointment! I was all excited with the show moving from the USA Network to NBC, but the whole thing was terrible. There is not one contestant that is a star at all, the judges were bad and Billy Ray Cyrus was awful as the host. I’ll keep watching, but I don’t know if I’ll last through the whole season.

Speaking of Billy Ray Cyrus, has there ever been anyone who has benefited more from having a talented child. Billy Ray was nowhere to be found after the “Achy Breaky Heart” phenomenon died out years ago, but since Miley has become a big star, Billy Ray is suddenly everywhere again. Ryan Seacrest better be happy Vanilla Ice doesn’t have a talented kid.

Be happy your boys can swim Billy Ray, they’ve given you another 15 minutes.

I had a great time at the Stanford St. Jude Championship last week. I really like the fact that we have a PGA Tour stop in town because I love watching the tour players. They make the game look so easy, it just amazes me. I also like the fact that TPC Southwind has become such a stiff test since the renovations in 2005. The course was great last week. The greens were immaculate and with the wind blowing the way it was, 4-under was the winning score. The course really showed its teeth again and I loved it. It was also a great finish with a three-way playoff. Kudos to everyone involved with the tournament for another great event.

The Grizzlies had a big pre-draft workout on Monday that included Kevin Love. We had Love on the show after the workout and he really comes off as a very likable kid. He also has lost 15 pounds and looks much more athletic. I still think there are better options at the fifth pick, but after hearing about the workout, seeing how slim he is now and talking to him, I wouldn’t totally hate it if the Grizzlies went with Love.

Here’s a question I posed on the show today: Assume you are the GM of a brand new NBA franchise in Kalamazoo, Michigan and you are getting ready to draft your first player to start the franchise. You have just six guys to choose from, they are Kevin Durant, Greg Oden, Derrick Rose, Pau Gasol, Michael Beasley and Rudy Gay. Based on what we know about those guys as of today, and their current age etc. how would you rank those players on your draft board? Here is how MTR(Mr. Tuesday Ramblings) would rank them:

  1. Durant
  2. Gay
  3. Rose
  4. Oden
  5. Beasley
  6. Gasol

That’s all for this week, have a good week and if you haven’t heard, Gary Payton would have a sex change for $100 million.

  1. Don’t call yourself MTR ever again.
