NBA Draft Lottery is bad Theatre

Filed under: Uncategorized — Greg Gaston @ 7:52 pm

LIKE THE BCS AND FUN SIZE CANDY, THE NBA DRAFT LOTTERY IS JUST PLAIN STUPID.
HOWEVER, LIKE THE AFOREMENTIONED GROUP, IT’S UNFORTUNATELY GOING NOWHERE.
OF COURSE I UNDERSTAND WHY THE NBA HAS THE LOTTERY. IT GIVES TEAMS HOPE, WE KEEP BAD TEAMS IN OUR DAILY SPORTS CONVERSATION, AND THAN WE PULL OUT IN PRIMETIME TELEVISION, THIS “SPECTACLE”.
WELL, A SPECTACLE THAT IS JUST BORING TELEVISION.
THE DRAFT IS SUPPOSE TO HELP OUT THE WORST TEAMS, AND IT DOES, WHEN THE RIGHT CHOICES ARE MADE.
BUT THE LOTTERY IS A SIDESHOW EVENT THAT OFTEN DOES MORE HARM THAN GOOD.
TUESDAY NIGHT THE BULLS, A MAJOR MARKET TEAM WHICH HAS NO PROBLEM FILLING SEATS, SOMEHOW GAINED THE NUMBER ONE PICK. THEY HAD A 1.7 PERCENT CHANCE. LET ME REPEAT THAT, 1.7 PERCENT.
THE GRIZZLIES FELL FROM A LIKELY 4 TO 5, WHILE LAST YEAR THEY TOOK AN EPIC NOSEDIVE FROM HAVING THE BEST CHANCE AT THE FIRST PICK, TO GETTING THE 4TH.
BOTTOM LINE, IF YOUR THE WORST, THAN YOU SHOULD BECOME THE FIRST.
SINCE 1990, ONLY 4 TEAMS THAT HAD THE WORST RECORD WON THE RIGHTS TO PICK 1ST. (4 OUT OF 18…THAT’S HORRIBLE).
AND IF YOU THINK THAT NOT HAVING THE DRAFT LOTTERY WILL MAKE BAD TEAMS TANK GAMES, THINK ABOUT THIS. ONE, IT’S WORKED IN THE PAST, AND TWO, IF YOU’RE THAT CONCERNED, SET UP A STIFF PENALTY FOR TEAMS WHO THE LEAGUE FEEL ARE PURPOSELY LOSING GAMES. SUCH AS THE LOSS OF THEIR PICK.
SO MR. STERN, TEAR DOWN THE LOTTERY!

  1. Instead of crying about the draft lottery,Maybe the media should hold the griz accountable for the terrible decisions this organization is making.Calkins is the only one in the media calling the Griz. out and he gets blasted for it by hosts on 56.Stop defending the poor decisions that Wallace has made and crying about the lottery,Make better decisions with trades, free agents, and the picks you do have.Hows that for a idea?
